November brought us our last outing for the year! We were able to go up and spend our whole Thanksgiving holiday with my family, which was just the relaxing time I think we needed. It was quite cold and foggy for most of the time we were there, but we were still able to get out and see a few things. We also had the chance to meet Titus’s girlfriend- Jaz- so a lot of the things we did were to show her the beauty that is the Columbia Basin region of the state.
Thanksgiving Day was a pretty relaxed day for us. Gregory had to work, so we bumped our big meal celebration to the next day, and went exploring instead. We drove out to an old highway road near the river. Before the many river dams (I think), you could drive down and take a ferry across the river to the other side. Now, the freeway travels further up to a bridge across, but the road and the sights are beautiful!
The next day, some of us went on a driving tour of the area which involved basically 3 hours of driving around in a big loop to see things like the Columbia River (again), a couple small towns, Dry Falls- near the Grand Coulee Dam, and just the sights of the area.
Our last day there, we went for a rather epic hike out near the river. My brothers and Matthew had done this hike last year and they were eager to show us girls this space. It was just foggy enough to be able to see but also to add some mystery to the hike, which we didn’t mind. The hike starts out near the Ancient Lakes area of Quincy and then descended into a gorge.
Overall, it was a great hike and we actually had a good time together tackling the rock. While it was a very low-key holiday, I think we enjoyed just getting to spend time together getting to catch up. We hadn’t all been in the same room for a year, so it’s nice when we do have that opportunity. Thanksgiving is a time to think about the things you have been giving and the opportunities you were able to have, and family is of course one of the best and most wonderful things we could ever have- second perhaps only to Jesus. I’m very thankful for my family and the chances we do have to get together especially since we’re rather spread out.
And, since this is my last post of our 2020 adventures, here’s to a new year full of unique opportunities and memories. 🙂
